Show WANT BRITAIN TO STOP BOOZE Withhold Statement Regarding Re-garding Request to Curb Illicit Liquor Traffic WASHINGTON. July 26 (By the Acsoclated Press.) Although official statements continued to be withheld j Tuesday concerning the recent Amerl-can Amerl-can note to Groat Britain urging the cooperation of that country In efforu to curtail the illicit liquor traffic between be-tween British possessions off t!i Atlantic At-lantic coast and American ports, it was indicated that the British government govern-ment was exhibiting the greatest consideration con-sideration toward the I nltd States in its efforts to enforce the Volstead Vol-stead act In view of the silence of officials upon up-on thj representations made to Great Britain by the United States, it was not possible tonight to say whether an attempt would be. made to obtain recognition re-cognition of the right claimed by tne treasury department to search vessels outside of territorial waters for contraband con-traband liquor shipments. There were indications, however, that to achleve satlsfactorlly the object sought in the representations to Great Britain, it will be necessary for the United Sfatefl to end the negotiations to other nations making overtures perhaps to Cuba and to European countries with colonies in the western hemisphere as well at-to at-to some adjacent Eatln-Amerlcan countries |
