Greater exposure, contact, activity ac-tivity mean greater possibilities of strain, fatigue and Infection. Thus "heart disease" get its start in children not too strongly constituted. It is estimated es-timated that 2 per cent of children chil-dren of school age have heart disease dis-ease Examinations show a gradual Increase In-crease In heart diseases from 8 to 14 years of age. slightly higher In girls than In hoys- The percentage is slightly higher among high school pupils pu-pils than among those of elementary schools. The gradual Increase from S to 14, may be accounted for as follows- 1. The existence of abnormal or diseased tonsils and adenoids. 2 The greater amount of dental decay and pulp Infections found In older children. 3. The fact that older children engage en-gage in more vlolen exercise, with resultant re-sultant greater exposure and more frequent fre-quent respiratory Illnesses, especially influenr, 4. The greater amount of Improper and irregular feeding of older children, chil-dren, resulting in lowered vitality. All these causes suggest their own preventive measures removal of tonsils ton-sils and adenoids greater attention to' dental and nasal hygiene, malnte-nanec malnte-nanec of a proper standard of nutrition, nu-trition, the establishment of good health habits mdtlcatlOn, sleep, ventilation, ven-tilation, exercise, rest and fresh air. |
