Show VACATION BUT NOT VACUITY the district schools are nearly au all taking a vacation and a few words to children teachers and an trustees may not bo out of place life is too valuable to take many vacations in the tile sense that some people are in the habit of taking them tiler n throw everything aside and make every school interest a thing of the dim future when time for work as they are pleased to call it is st rt hand everything that should have been done in the meantime is left undone and as a consequence they are left behind the whole year round nature takes no such vacation but is ever new in her varied changes always up to our expectations continually changing at work yet in all her variations pleasant features arc are presented from which rest labor and delight arc are taken because a child ha lia left school we do not think it wise that it shall leave the studies altogether A little study coupled with thought even in vacation is very profitable yes but herd there is s no time 1 everybody very is busy even the tile school boy and school girl must work during vacation there is however abundance of time try to take one hour each morning with your books it will invigorate you for your labors labor s during the day and make you feel rested for the night it willaid will aid you in adopting system in your you r work desultory labor in books in the field in the shop in the office is injurious when system in work is learned much good has been accomplished the student who follows this advice will stand at the head of his class when school bagins bs gina and will not fall behind in the raco race of life if children should be busy in this direction teachers should be doubly so vacation for them should be a time of systematic labor for improvements prove ments in tho the schoolroom many of the male teachers work on the farm during vacation which is a very healthy healt liy occupation but they should remember that the schools room is their proper place and should make all other labor subservient to teaching teaching first manual labor as recreation next plan think study send for sampler of educational journals and choose the best to be a help to you when you begin your school labors think of interesting subjects for teachers meetings and county institutes and decide that you will attend as many of them as possible it is a IL most excellent plan to write upon various subjects pertaining to educational interests the labor of the teacher should be such that everybody may know he ia is interested above all other labor in the cause of education the teacher who does this will not have much difficulty in finding a good position which is always open for the best tho the vacation should be tine the very yer busiest time for the trustees the planter plan for the whole school year must be made meetings must be held to see what manner shall he had bad for tho the year the wise trustee will study the best beat interest of the district and judging by past experience present ciuch plans to the people for adoption as will most tend to promote the educational interests of bis his district it would seem that there ia is no necessity to urge trustees to do their fencing building and stud repairing now but ibid judging ging from the past the suggestion will not bo be out of place do not keep keel the school waiting in the best part of the tile year while some old stove is being wing arranged to keep it from toppling over or from smoking the children out fix it now it is not out of place to suggest that the records and accounts bo be kept in a neat anent orderly manner every district should have a complete history of the school in it from its first organization until now not alone a labored effort at minutes of one or two inee meetings tings but let the history of the school vear year its trustees teachers and plans ans be written in a short record so that following officers may trace the progress and development of the school interests avoid errors and profit by tried experiences the trustees should not rest until this thi 13 is accomplished the people will helprin chis matter and encourage them to conclude let them not forget to look for a teacher for the year now do not wait till the last mo ment and then have to hire an inferior teacher because you are behind in the race and not up to your duties we hope to hear that no district shall hire a teacher for less than one year but make it as much longer as possible man NEW YORK sun sien is one of the most conscientiously and carefully edited papers in the united states at least from a typography cal point pointon of view but mistakes will occur in the best regulated printing offices as we see in the sim of june 21 27 0 7 where an odessa dispatch headed rivers damned by hailstones states that the rivers were damned and the banks badly flooded seventy houses were razed and forty lives were lost this is rather profane for sir mr danas sun suit that shines for all arthurl VETO of the fitz john porter bill stands good the senate having voted 27 to 27 thereby failing 0 to furnish the two thirds majority necessary to pass a bill over the
