Show Protest Against Policy as to the Purchasing Fuel CHICAGO, April 16 John L Lewis, acting president of the United Mine Workers i.r America at a conference today with W. D. Hms, director general gen-eral of railroads, renewed his protest against the government's policy in purchasing pur-chasing fuel for the transportation lines. Mr. Lewis declared that the government govern-ment recently had departed from its war policy in railroad purchases of fuel by buying at prices as low as to jeopardize the present wage scale of the miners and to make it difficult for the workers to obtain high wages in the new agreement to be formulated formulat-ed after peace is officially declared. He said that the government's present pres-ent policy had resulted in idleness and suffering among miners in Ohio, Alabama Ala-bama and other states Director General Hines promised to consider the complaint and endeavor to formulate a policy which would be fair to all interests involved. |
