Show I Ogden Votes Bonds for Schools, Paving I I and Sewers, But County Districts Defeat I 1 Proposed Joint City and County Building I OGDEN STARTS ON A GREAT CAMPAIGN OF IMPROVING SCHOOLS AND STREETS Sewer in Third Ward Favored by Taxpayers, Also Paving in All Parts of City Warrants Are to Be Redeemed School Bonds of $500,000 Given a Big Endorsement. In th triple bond election yesterday, yester-day, the taxpayers in Ogden city strongly supported all of the issues except ex-cept one or two, while the county lay-payers lay-payers voted so heavily against the bonds for the proposed joint city and oun'y building that the issue was lost completely, according to returns this morning. P, The vote for the $500,000 school hoods for Ogden city was heavily in lavor and the new schools Tvere assured as-sured before midnipiif last night The Third ward sewer and other v sewer improvements pr ied for in tne bond issue of $:i25.00u are assured. Ogden will also have a new comfort station at Twenty-fourth street and Washington avenue, the ?12,000 issue L , for that purpose having carried. The city taxpa ers also provided for the paving and issue of 195,000, which L-- will take rare of all the thy ptlvin plans, in addition to that m the' north w.tfhington district The issue of $101,100 foi the rerun 1-ing 1-ing of the outstanding indebtedness also cairied, the vote in its favor being be-ing heavy. The city support, however, was not strong enough to jL put it over successfully. The county voted overwhelmingly i against the bonds for the joint build ing and the county jail, there beincc1 several county precincts where there was not a votu in faor of the county plans, notably among these being Eden i nnd Marriott. Although the returns show the Joint ! building lost by a big majority, there , is considerable talk of the county voreJ I being thrown out entirely and a new I election called on the ground that I there were irregularities in some of the precincts on the part of election j ofllcials. It is claimed by somo that a number of election Judges In the county districts were guilty of Influ-' Influ-' encing voters, it being alleged that in some cases the attempts were open I ly made The election has caused considerable consider-able discussion on the part of all citizens, citi-zens, especially in the city. At two o'clock this afternoon all pre- I cincts of the city had made returns 1 on the city and county building measure, meas-ure, the returns made showing that the mesure had carried In the citv bv a majority of 248 vptes out of a total vl of 1724 votes cas"t. There were D86 I votes east in the city In favor of the joint building and 738 votes against it. The eity and county building lost in the county by a majority of 652 votes , out of approximately 953 votes cast. The above figures are not official. but are compiled from the reports as they c:ime in. and they may be subject sub-ject to some slight changes. Tho voting on the countv Jail was approximately the same, the difference differ-ence being only a few votes All measures in the city carried except ex-cept the Lonn Farr Tark appropriation appropria-tion of .519.763 At the time of going to press there were still some precincts pre-cincts whirh had nor reported, but the vote showed 611 votes for and 664 against the improvements proposed. The Washington avenue park meas- . j uro carried by a small majority the vote for it being 651 for to 628 against. This measure will provide extra plav -grounds and swimming pool for tho children in the southern part of the city during the school year. The exact figures on the other measures could not be given at tho time or going to press, but there was lead enough for all of them t0 carry by a, safe majority. 00 |
