Steels, equipments and motors led the list at the strong: opening of today's market mar-ket Traders evidently found much encouragement In the better local financial fi-nancial situation, as Indicated by last Saturday's returns of the federal reserve re-serve bank and clearing house. Con spicuous features Included Vanadium land Lackawanna Steels, Baldwin and Studebakcr at gains of 1 1-2 to 3 1-2 points. 1". S. Steel opened unchanged, but soon rose almost two points. General Gen-eral Motors took a foremost position within the first half hour, advancing 10 1-2 points to .103 1-2. General Motors cxtonded Us rise to IG 1-2 points and most other active Issues made additional gains chiefly at the expense of the shorts. Activity slackened on the customary profit but was resumed when call money opened at 7 per cent. Oils, notably the Mexican Mex-ican group, food shares, represented by Corn Products and sugar issues, also rails, shippings and tobaccos were in demand, with the specialties, Including textiles. The west was a buyer of stocks, although dispatches from that section reported further reduction re-duction on Industrial activity and movement of railroad tonnage., Trading switched to rails, particularly particu-larly the low priced or speculative issues at midday. Texas and Pacific stood out for Its gains of almost five points and investment issues of tho transcontinental division, especially Union Pacific and Southern Pacific, also showed marked strength.
