Show Famous Painting on Exhibition at Boyle Furniture Store Recognized as" a painting of exceptional excep-tional value, and comparing favorably with the work of old mastors, "The Cruslflxlon," a painting by F. A. L.un-dahl, L.un-dahl, famous Swedish painter, is on display at the Boyle Furnlturo company. com-pany. ' The painting is of Christ on the cross, with Mary, the mother, Mary Madgalen and Martha as the prominent promin-ent figures on the canvas. The three female figures in tbo foreground stand forth with reality that is amazing, the representation being such that Ii. seems that living figures rather than the flat painted canvas, stand out vividly. In the middle distance is Christ on the cross, with the two thieves flanking him on each side. An expression of agony is on his countenance, counten-ance, unlike many representations of the scene, which depict him with a smiling countenance. In the background is the Roman mob and the approach of a black threatening cloud forecasts the approaching ap-proaching storm. Cracks in the earth are visible and one can almost imagine the roar of distant thunder. The painting, as a wholo is a wonderful won-derful piece of work, the outlines, the perspective, and the technique employed em-ployed by the artist being marvelous in their arrangement. The painting is valued at $135,000 and is being sent through the United States for exhibition. James Fontaine is in chargo of the picture and is exhibiting ex-hibiting and explaining the painting. Probably the be.t of the artist was the manner In which ho handled the flesh tints, and th drapery of feet in painting the female figures. oo |
