Show ! DR. VANCE'S DAILY ARTICLE ' , & By Dr. Jnmcs T. Vance. . The Jntcrchurch World Movement Is the greatest effort the Protestant churches of the United States have ever made to do team work. It Is a scheme to unify the activities of theso churches In securing adequate resources re-sources of money and life to reach the unreached portions of the human race' with the Gospel message. I It Is not a super-church, and posses-j ss no authority over the churches.' It functions through existing denominational denomin-ational agencies, and respects denom-1 (national rights. I It should Jesuit in the elimination of useless friction and costly competl-, t'ons. and It may result In th'el union of churches. If the union should bo a love match, ohall it be counted a calamity? The Savior's prayer for Ills people was not that they might be divided, but that they might be one. j The movement is not doctrinal but practical. It is not a unification of creeds but of activities. Churchmen ore responsible to their denominations , for their orthodoxy. The Interchurch endeavors to harness together men who may differ In their theology, but who may pull together in their desires , for the coming of the Redeemer's kingdom. Surely if co-operation is a good thing in business, it cannot bo a bad thing in religion. Surely if men can pool their efforts under the spell of patriotism and retain their political allegiance, it should be possible for Christians to pool their efforts for the Kingdom of God and retain their creedal allegiance. Tho task which confronts the Christian church today I5 sublime. If religion dpoa not ?avo civilisation, socitoy Is lost. The church must bo at Its best. To be at its best, it must do team work. "Stand together!" shouted shout-ed an Lofi'Iccr to his mon in battle. "No man alone over took a trench!"" |
