Show WARSHIPS ARE GIVEN ORDERS TO I GO TO ENGLAND I WASHINGTON, April 1. Acting Secretary Roosevelt announced today that the cruisers Chattanooga and Galveston, the gunboat Sacramento, Eagles Nos. 1, 2 and 3, and a number j of submarine chasers were under or-ders or-ders to proceed to Plymouth, Eng., where they will report to Rear Ad- j miral Knapp, who has succeeded Vice Admiral Sims in command of tho j American naval forces in European . The future of these vessels will be j under Admiral Knapp's direction. Mr. Roosevelt specifically denied a report that they had been ordered to the i north Russian coast, although he said J it was possible some of them might j go there later. H The only American vessoj now in j; Russian waters in the Murmansk re jj Kion is the gunboat Yankton which is scon to be brought home as she is too small to accommodate her personnel comfortably under present conditions. I The Chattanooga or Galveston might j bo assigned by Admiral Knapp, Mr. Roosevelt explained, to take the place of the Yankton, although this has not been indicated as yet in advices from j London. |
