Show LIBERTY BONDS nsm-awaJr sateAiK-5r , wrmM 8lt iaa I A I Gold Star Mother FOR "America First" I North Ogden, Utah, Oct. 26, 1920. Governor William Spry, Chairman, Republican State Committee, I Salt Lake City, Utah. Dear Governor Spry: In the turmoil of the present political campaign, so mud has been said about the so-called League of Nations that I am sine you will be glad to get an expression from a mother who sent four sons to th great World War. One of these sons now sleeps in a soldier's grave and while the mother's heart yearns for him I would willingly again send my sons in defense of the American Rag, if necessary. Yet as I recall that it was the men who now claim that this league will end war who claimed four years ago that "he kept us out of war." I feel somewhat dubious about the hope being realized under the Wilson covenant. J If I am asked again send my sons into the service, 1 want to be certain that when they are called upon to face the enemy's guns it will be in defense of the American flag and our own dear country, and that our own Congress- not foreign for-eign diplomatshas decided that our liberties are at stake and that the principles for which our brave men have fought in former wars are in the balance. Surely every mother in this country would welcome any association of nations of the earth which would bring about universal peace, and the motherhood of the world hopes for the time to come when there will be no more wars. But no mother of this republic desires to try as an experiment a League of Nations unless the Constitution of the United States is absolutely safeguarded and assured. J (Signed) MRS.
