Kml Halnson. , who has chnrgo of the landscape gardening gar-dening in the horticultural department depart-ment at the I'tah Agricultural college has Just returned from a six weeks' I visit of the principal cities between here and Chicago, where he has been making an extended study of nil Important Im-portant parks and landscapes. Mr. Hansen received many suggestions which Will be valuable In connection ! with his work at the I'tah Agricultural Agricul-tural college and throughout tho state. Tho U. A. C. Is the only state school i between hero and Chicago except tno j Kansas State Agricultural college which has a landscape expert doing j work throughout the state, advocating advocat-ing and assisting In beautifying lanct-scupe lanct-scupe and park sites Nowhere In all the region covered by his visit did Mr Hansen find parking park-ing more beautiful and well cared for than those of the state of Utah Our ! ' Ity parks and campuses of tho Stats I institutions are tho best he has seen. .There are many of them much larger In area, but unsurpa.sslng ours in beauty and care Mr. Hansen feels deeper pride In the campus of tho Utah Agricultural college now than when he left it two months ago. At Colorado Springs he visited tho state college campus, which is very fine, alxo the city's Stratton parK, which Is beautiful A feature of the city i.s Us auto park something that is of Interest hero which Is gaining in popularly. A week was spent at Chicago Chi-cago where Its extensive parking system sys-tem was sen and the commercial greenhouses wore visited. Besides tho large parks, Chicago has & G smaller ones averaging 10 to 4 0 acres, Some ef these have standard communltv houses In w'hlch a gymnasium ana sterilized swimming pool form an attraction at-traction for the people. The community commun-ity house plan Is one which Mr Hansen Han-sen will advocate in Utah. Other places of Interest visited were Denver, where a large variety of perenlals wore seen at Washington park; Manhattan and Kansas City. I Kansas, Independence, Columbia and St. Louis, Missouri, several Iowa cities land Omaha, Nebraska At all of j which places tho college campuses and city parks were visited. Throughout the irlp Mr Hansen received re-ceived very hospitable treatment. |
