Show 'officers raid headquarters OF Ml. W. W. I SEATTLE. Wash , Nov. 13 (By Hie Associated Press.) Raids were j conducted in Washington and Oregon cilies today by state and federal officers of-ficers on Industrial Workers ol the World headquarter and many arrests 'were made of alleged members of the I organization. Gov. Louis F. Hart announced he 'would inaugurate a statewide cam 'paitcn to wipe out Industrial Workers of the World, bolshevixi and other rad ricals and called upon all state officers to co-operate with federal and count officers to work to that end. The (governor received messages asking him to convene the legislature to pass stringent anfi industrial workers of the world laws. Federal officers raided the office of the Seattle Union Record, seized the entire plant and arrested several employes, em-ployes, including E B. Ault, editor The raids were the outgrowth of the killing of four former soldiers at Cen tralia, one hundred miles 6outhwest of here, Tuesday, by alleged I. W. W. Seventy-four alleged members of the Industrial Workers were arrested in a ball at Spokane and at Portland. Ore., men alleged to be members of the organization were being held for examination One of the men arrested ar-rested at Portland, Frank Briley, told his arresting officers ho believed the Central la outrage was a "frameup against the I. W. W." The raid on the Seattle Union Record Rec-ord was made on instructions from Washington, D. C, according to Rob err C. Saunders, U. S. district at torncy. Federal officers also seized the plant of the Equity Printing company com-pany and arrested Walker C. Smith, editor of the International Weekly, which is printed in the Equity .-hop. Smith was charged with violating the espionage act. Ault, editor; George P. Listman. president of the board of directors of the Record, and Frank A Rust, secretary- manager of the Seattle labor temple assocation. were arrested, charged with violation of the espionage espion-age act The Record is owned by the Seattle Central Labor council. Deputv United States marshals ord- ered a truck load of copies of the mail edition which was about to leave the j office to be unloaded. "The United States government is I taking charge here," Deputy Marshal E R Tohey told Ault as he entered! the office to serve the warrants "We j have search warrants and you will clear the office, editorial room? and press rooms of all employes as quick ly as possible. The plant is now in the hands of the government and Ihe government is now the editor of the Record." Ault read the warrant and immediately imme-diately began earning out the orders "f the deputy marshal. He turned to his employes and said.
