Show CONDUCTOR MUCK HONS PUCE Leader of Boston Symphony Orchestra Criticized for Not Playing National Anthem. DOSTON, Nov. 2. The resignation; of Dr. Karl Muck, conductor of the Boston Symphony orchestra, who had been criticized for not playing the' Star-Spangled Banner at a recent concert con-cert in Providence, was announced by i Major Henry L. Higginson at a con-, cert this afternoon. j It also was announced that the na-i tional anthem would be played at the concert and at futuro concerts given by tho organization. . j In announcing thatDr. Muck had tendered his resignation, Major Higginson Hig-ginson made the following statement: "I have asked Dr. Muck and the orchestra to play the Star-Spangled Banner and they have consented They have never refused. Last spring at my earnest request Dr. Muck con-' sented to remain in charge of the! orchestra because. I considered him essential to the continuance of these i concerts. He has placed his resigna-j tion in my hands because he does not; wish that any personal feeling toward j him should prejudice the welfare of I the orchestra. To lose him would bo I a disaster. Therefore, the matter' rests with me and will have my earnest consideration." oo |
