Show OlSOi BUTLER HELD FOR 1MPP0RT Orson Butler was arrested last night, again by Sheriff Herbert Peterson, Peter-son, and lodged in the county jail on a charge of failure to provide for his wife and minor child. Butler has been arrested before on the same charge and his treatment of his family has caused a storm of protest In tho Twelfth street neighborhood where he lives. His wife, Maud Butler, filed a divorce di-vorce complaint against him on January Janu-ary 11, and on February G the default of tho defendant was entered. The case was taken under advisement by Judge Pratt several days ago when it came up for a bearing In the district court. Butler is an able-bodied man, his wife claims, and capable of working and oarning enough to support his family but he haa persistently refused to do bo. He told officers at tho county coun-ty Jail, when arrested last night, that he would not support the woman and child. Tho complaint on which he was arrested was sworn to by Mrs, Butler. On October 20, 1917, a charge of failure to provido for his wife and child was dismissed in the district court on motion of District Attorney S. P. Dobbs when it was found that Butler had secured a Job nnd bad promised to tako care of his family. He was waited by tho court at that time that a recurranco of tho offense might be hard on him. Mrs. Butler's mother is said to have told tho officers last night that Butler had persistently refused to support his wife and the 2 -year-old baby but ho came frequently to their homo and took hor away with him for abort periods, per-iods, during which they would live about town In rooming houses and other places. |
