Show APPEAL MADE FOR ALL TO OBSERVE AR60R DAY An appeal to the citizens of Og den and Weber county 10 let Arbor day, April 15, (his year have significance signifi-cance in keeping with the great crisis which the country and its allies this year are experiencing is being made by W. W. Armstrong, federal food id ministrator for I'tah, in a bulletin Which he lias issued to the farm bureaus bu-reaus of each county and which is receiving re-ceiving wide circulation. Mr. Armstrong Arm-strong urges the people to cultivate intensively every acre of ground available, avail-able, plant trees and produce food on as great a scale n.s possthle. His appeal ap-peal follows "Arbor dav is one of America's own days, and one that appeals with unusual unus-ual force. At no time since ihe establishment estab-lishment of the custom of tree plant ing, and beautificatiop of our surroundings sur-roundings by the cultivation of vines and shrubs, has ihe day given promise of such genuinely practical inspiration as this coming Arbor day gives "The strong and compelling voice of necessity is heard above the roar of battle, demanding food for the men who fight for liberty; men. women ami children of stricken Knrnne whose source of lood supply has been devastated devas-tated bv the scourge of conflict, look to America for sustenance ESverj meal, or every part of a meal, that Is supplied from the home garden adds a meal or a part of .1 meal lo the world s food supplv . "There comes a time in the history of nations, as in the lives of men, when ihe things lhat are pleasing to the eye -the luxuries must be sacn ficed for the things that are required for existence the necessities If we but knew it, that time Is with us now Everything that we think and sav and do must be practical and adaptable to the one common end victory in the great world's conflict. 'Throughout the land men are devoting de-voting their entire energies lo a campaign cam-paign for increased production and greater conservation of food Arbor day. which in this slate tails fin Mon-j Mon-j day. April 15, lends Itself so aptly to the promotion of this great movement I 1 hat the food adminisi rat ion of Utah grasps the occasion as an opportunity to focus public interests and attention I on this most important of our present duties Falling on Monday it will be pi actual tor the people of Utah to devote de-vote the entire better part of three davs to war garden work Saturday afternoon a'nd Sunday (for this is a holy cause), can be devoted to the preparation and Monday to the seed ing of the ground.
