Show SEN. ARMSTRONG ' E RESIGNED Appreciating the fact that under Iho' constitution of the state he cannot take an active part m the work of the i next state legislature while occupying the position of food administrator for Utah, and realizing that the demands of the federal government are far more urgent than those of the state, W. W. Armstrong yesterday tendered his resignation res-ignation as a member of the state senate to Governor Bamberger. In the absence of the governor from the state, no action on the resignation of Mr. Armstrong has yet been taken. The following is tho letter of resignation resig-nation : "Herewith is tendered my resignation resigna-tion as a member of the Utah stato senate, to take effect at the earliest date suitable to your convenience. "I regret this action because of many official associations during the last session of the legislature, to the renewal re-newal of which I had looked forward with pleasurable anticipation. "Under the constitution of the state, I could not engage actively in thei work of the coming session while holding a federal position, and my action ac-tion is taken now in order that my successor may be chosen at the November No-vember election. "While it is not believed that the I framers of the state constitution in-tonded in-tonded to penalize officers of the commonwealth com-monwealth for offering their time and service to the federal government without remuneration in time of war, j there is but one legal construction to place on that instrument as it now stands. "The conservation of food and fuel is of such importance, under the circumstances, cir-cumstances, and the demands of this branch of the public service aro so onerous and so much more pressing than the requirements of local legislation legis-lation at this time, that I cannot hesitate hes-itate in making a choice in this matter." |
