Show mnB PMsm . : BREAK ATTEMPTED ' SALT LAKE, Oct. 2. An ingeniously ingenious-ly concealed tunnel, designed to bring I about the -wholesale liberation of interned in-terned "I. W. W. Germans from tho Third war prison camp at Fort Doug-I Doug-I las, has been unearthed by the officers and the wholesale prison delivery plot I has been thwarted before it could be carried into execution. JThe newest tunnel is the largest I : j ttiat has yet been dug and its location was so adroitly concealed that it deli de-li fied discovery until the underground ! passage had been carried to a distance of more than forty feet from the point of entrance. It probably would have had to be carried another hundred feet before a safe exit could have been opened, however, and its discovery brought chagrin and consternation to a dozen or more prisoners who have been stealthily -working on tho pas-'Tjt pas-'Tjt sage in the wee hours of the nights, I1. The plotting prisoners, who have ! heretofore endeavored to dig their tunnels tun-nels from beneath barrack building floors, this time chose a concrete lined bathhouse near the prison hospital building as the point of beginning. 'A portion of the wall of this building, build-ing, back of the water tank, is below the surface of the ground. From the l floor of the building rises a concrete j wall nearly a foot in thickness and this is built upon a concrete flooring. The I water heater and tank conceal a por- lion of the wall from view, yet gives ,!!!' room enough for a man to work be-;ij be-;ij tween tho heater and the tank and ! here tho tunnel was started. |
