Show I NATIONAL INDOOR TRACK EVENT NEW YORK. March 17 With practically prac-tically every track athlete of prominence promi-nence in tho country struggling for supremacy su-premacy in some particular line, the National A. A. U. Annual Senior Indoor In-door and .Track Championship contest will be held hero tonieht In the Twenty-second Regiment armory. No recent track event with the possible pos-sible exception of the senior DOtflOOT mufi! hfll in Vewnrl; M T lnct fall I has awakened such country-wide ni-terest ni-terest and almost every locality has its representative here. Fourteen contests have been arranged, ar-ranged, which will be run off for the stellar honors of university, club and individual athletics. East will meet West and North clash with South in spirited rivalry, which will in all probability result in the torpedoing of old records and many I new champions. The West is represented by the Chicago Chi-cago Athletic club stars and those from the Illinois A. C, while the Irish-American Irish-American A. C, New York A. C, and the Millrose A A cnnienders will be on hand in full force, 'lhe point trophy this year is well worth the best efforts of the athletes. Jl is a huge loving cup with a bronze antique finish, and would remind one of the heroic days of ancient Greece. Four men will figure in tho tally for the trophy on the basis of 5 points for first. 3 for second, 2 for third and 1 for fourth. It is understood that the two-mile run will come early on the program, and owing chiefly to the presence of Joie Ray of the Illinois A. C, the world's record holder indoors, it will be the most interesting event of the . night. Joie happens to be the present pres-ent champion, he having won the title last year with a record of 9:25 4-5. The world's mark on the boards is 9; 11 2-5, made a short time ago by Ray. During the week the question has hern frequenlly asked who In the east Is good enough to give Joie a chase in the two miles. Hardly any one, is the conclusion arrived at by the crit ics. Mike Devaney, of the Millrose A. A., the winner of the race in the senior "Mets." appears to bo the westerner's most formidable foe. The 1,000 yards should furnish a real rattling contest, especially as Johnnv Overton of Yale university, the present champion, is a certain starter. Nearly all the followers of athletics remember the exhibition he made of the opposition last year when he rung up the championship record of 2 15 2-5 Homer Baker. Overtoil's old opponent, oppo-nent, Is here to test the Yale man's niPttlf flp.tin hilt linu' far T"lnl-1T- n-lll I he successful only time can tell. The entry of LeRoy Campbell has come II out of the west, and there will be Joe Higgins of the Irish A. A. C. The recent showing of Tom Halpin, i of the Boston A. A., in 600 yards, hasl placed him favorite with the Judges I of form, and they have it doped that I Tom is as speedy now as when he ---r made the championship record of J 1:13 2-5, three years ago. There will ) be Caldwell, Meredith and perhaps some others of noto now not known, I but no matter who they might be Hal- pin will be the hardest sort of a prop-! prop-! osition to tackle. I Joo Loomis of the Chicago A. A., is ' joint holder of tho 60-yard champlon-1 champlon-1 ship record of 6 2-5 Beconds, and, if anything, he may improve on these j figures this time. He will also have , a smash at tho 70-yard hurdles, where there will be such well known cracks as Eller, tho holder of the champlon-hip; champlon-hip; Farwi.dl of Yale rtnd Engels and I Murray of the New York A. C. Andy Kelly of the New York A. C. the present champion in the 300 yards, i is in trim again and will sport silk in his favorite distance. He will be help-ed help-ed out in the points by Daislev. a club-mate, club-mate, who cleverly won the event in the senior "Mets" from Dornell of the Boys' club. Tho favorite Moore of Princeton will be a factor in the race. Alvoh Meyer of the Irish A. A. C, who is the championship record holder1 with 32 1-5 seconds, has been seen in harness lately, and IT he should strike his gait of a few years ago he will make the boys hustlV The attractive fe; ure of the five miles will be the I tJpearanco of B. French of the Illinois A. C.said to be1 an out and out "phenom." He has Been only nineteen summers, yet it Is claimed that he is a solid 25 minutes mover for the long distance journey. To be loughened enough nt nineteen! for the five miles is an unusual thin;, m the cinder path domain, consequent-: ly French's work will be closely watched watch-ed His fleetest opponent in the East: will be Kyronen, the little Finlander of the Millrose A. A., who won the' Metropolitan race in stub a hollow fashion. Arlie Mucks, the giant weight tos-. tos-. ser, is here for the 16 pound shot.
