Show M EM Fin ' DRIVER OF III : Jay McMillan of 2859 Washington avenue, driver of a delivery truck for the Washington Market, had an almost al-most miraculous escape from death yesterday afternoon when his car dashed through a fence and plunged ' into an excavation. As it was, ho was rendered unconscious, but not seriously seri-ously injured. The accident happened in Canal al- , ley, a short distance east of Washington Washing-ton avenue, between Twenty fourth and Twenty-fifth streets. McMillan , was driving his car north and attempted attempt-ed to turn out for another automobile i and at the same time avoid striking a team, which had blocked his view into the entrance of the alley. When he turned his car aside it struck the fence and fell into the pit. oerturn ing and pinning him beneath the kind- . ling wood with which it was loaded J As the machine struck the bottom of the pit upside down, McMillan's head was bumped against one of the cover supports and he was stunned for some minutes afterward.
