Show CHIROPRACTORS IRE TO BE PUT OUT OF, OUSIiSS' ' Oustor of every chiropractor from practice in Utah impends through a rigorous enforcement of the state law at the demand of the state board of medical examiners. Unless' injunctions are secured, tno long-standing flght between the exponents expon-ents of chiropractic and of materia medica will bo won, it appears, by the latter. If any of tho former abide here, it is said, they will be in the capacity of masseurs. That tho state is prepared to enforce en-force existing statutes to the letter was made plain from no lesser source yesterday than Governor Simon Bamberger. Bam-berger. "Tho medical profession seems to lhavo the law on its side," he said, "and tho state must see that the law is enforced." Licenses Withheld Under the existing measures, state ofllcials pointed out, no person is allowed al-lowed to "diagnose, prescribe or charge fees" in cases of sickness who does not possess aolicenso issued by tho state board of medical examiners. These examiners have steadfastly refused re-fused to grant licenses to chiropractors. chiroprac-tors. One of the reasons given was the disparity in tho periods of preparation prepa-ration necessary to qualify as a physician phy-sician and to qualify as a chiropractor. Although tho lssuo finds its most poignant application now, so far as those of the chiropractic school are concerned, the flght was really docided at the last session of tho legislature, when tho chiropractors failed to secure se-cure the passage of a bill which would have made their recognition certain. Despite their legislative failure, however, they have not beon molested so far, it was declared, because of the amount of popular support which this form of drugless healing has won. This apparent immunity has been so marked that many practitioners have flocked to the state, until now they are said to be Ave times as strong numerically numer-ically as they were January 1. Wholesale arrests and prosecutions may result within a few days, unless there is a cessation of chiropractic, according to Dan B. Shields, attorney general. From many quarters, it is expected, there will be strenuous protest pro-test against the elimination of the chiropractors, chi-ropractors, who have carried on their profession in Utah for a long time and have gained many layman adherents during that period. 2 no |
