As the two machines approachqd tho- half mile point three cows started across tho road In single file, and for a second sec-ond it looked as though a collslon was certain, but tho driver of the Super-Six Super-Six guided the machine over to the sldo of the road, between two cows, through six inches of sand and back to tho pavement again. Aside from retarding the momentum of tho car, kicking up a cloud of dust and causing caus-ing tho driver's heart to jump to an unnatural position, everything came out all right. The Super-Six's turning out In the sand to avoid a collision with tho bo-vincs, bo-vincs, gave the Peerless a chance to gain what It had lost at the outset, and crossed tho line but a car's length behind the Super-six. on . |
