Show 00 I COLONEL CODY I DIES IN DENVER Famous Soldier, Hunter and Scout Ends Brave Struggle for Life. ACCEPTS HIS FATE Plans for Funeral and Advises Family Regarding His Business Affairs. Denver, Colo . Jan 10 Colonel William Wil-liam Frederick Cody, (Buffalo Bill) soldier, hunter and scout, the idol of Juvenile America, died at 12:05 p. m.. here today, at the home of his sister. With Colonel Cody, when death came; wore his wife and daughter, Who had hurried down from Cody, Wyoming, the family home, last week to be at his bedside, and his sister, Mrs. L. E. Decker of Denver. Colonel Cody had been in coma since this morning. Colonel Cody fought death as he often had opposed it on the plains in the days when the west was young. "You can't kill the old scout," he would tell his phvslcians whenever his condition would show improvement And when tho doctor told him his life was ebbing, Colonel Cody accepted accept-ed his fate like a stoic. Plans for Funeral. "Let the Elks and Masons take charge of the funeral," he said to his sister. Then he turned to his business busi-ness affairs, making fuggestions for tholr continuance. "Let us have a game of 'high five,' " ho said, after ho had talked with his family. And every one joined, the colonel laughing and joking because ho was winning. Since January 5, when he was hurried hur-ried back to his sister's heme in Denver, Den-ver, tho colonel had sa! rinsed all who knew his real condition by great powers pow-ers of resistenco and recuperation. One day hiB physician would see the end "within thirty six hours" and then the colonel would rally and no one could predict tho exact outcome. On January 8, however, his system broke down entirely and from then on it was a question merely of time. no |
