Show BRIEF HAS NOT YET REPORTED Utes Training Camp, Porterville, Cal., March 2. Utes of all classflca-tlons classflca-tlons were out for practice today except ex-cept first basemen. Brief, slated for the first bag, has not yet reported, and as far as Bernhard Indicated there ! has been no definite word from him. , I The manager is understood to be on ' the lookout for a utility man who can I be fitted into the first bag position j when necessary, but a9 far as has been disclosed he has not yet settled on a likely candidate. With the arrival of Rath and Tobln this afternoon from tho east, and I Ryan and Shinn from Sacramento this j morning, the Infield and outfield places were filled thid afternoon when the squad reported for tho first heavy work of the season. The weather was cool during the morning hours and light practice was the result. A material rise in tempera-ture tempera-ture during' the afternoon called for more pep from the squad, and for nearly three hours regulars and recruits re-cruits were put. through batting and : base running practice and took turns , in the outfield chasing the ball to all , corners of the lot. Bernhard appears pleased with tho condition the men are showing and is especially optimistic over tho splr-( splr-( it the men evidence in their work. There is a probability a flrsl and sec. ond team will work out tomorrow If it Bhould prove to be a warm day, and on Saturday a practice is slated. Although Manager Bernhard has been looking them over pretty carefully for the past two days, there have been no j releases, although some of the recruits I are wearing a worried look, which indicates in-dicates the fall of the axe would occasion occa-sion no very great surprise. |
