Show 'SEEK REDUCTION , OF SALT RATES Salt Lake, Oct. 18. I. A. Clayton, Jr., sales manager of the Inland Crvs-tal Crvs-tal Salt company of this city, was the principal witness on the stand yesterday yester-day In the federal courtroom, "where William A. Disque, examiner for the interstate commerce commission, is conducting a hearing based on the complaint of the salt companv that railroad rates to the Pacific coast by western and northwestern routes are too high to admit of competition with i similar concerns doing business in that territory. The claim Is made that a reduction of 20 per cent would be equitable and just. D. R. Gray, assistant general freight agent of the Oregon Short Line railway, rail-way, submitted figures in substantiation substantia-tion of the present railroad rates on salt shipped out of Salt Lake. The salt interests of California are also appealing to the interstate commerce commission for a reduction In the rates from Portland and Seattle, which, in connection with the boat rate from San Francisco to Portland and Seattle, will give them reduced rates from San Francisco and salt-producing salt-producing points on Srin Francisco bay to points In the northwest. t Among those present at the hearing hear-ing are H.
