Steel made an Initial In-itial gain of 3-4 of a point at the outset, soon increasing this to a point. Eocal tractions, motors of the industrial in-dustrial specialties, rose a point or more. Investment railway shares participated in more moderate degree and New York Central debentures made a new high record with a gain of 1 5-8. Lower Liverpool cables added to the impetus that came from favorable crop conditions in the United Uni-ted States, and also in Canada. Besides, Be-sides, cash houses here were hedging in the May delivery against purchases to arrive. The market after opening 5-8 to 1 7-8c off, steadied at about lc under last night's level. Lightness of offerings rallied the corn market from weakness that was due to sympathy with wheat. Cash demand seemed to have improved to a noticeable extent Opening prices which varied from l-8c to l-2c decline, were followed by some net gains. Shorts quickly absorbed offerings of oats. Accordingly the market more than recovered an early decline.
