Show AMERICAN TRADE SBOLILDJXPAND Unlimited Opportunities for U. S. Industries Will Open at End of War. BUSINESS HANDICAPPED Too Much Punitive Regulation Regula-tion by Government Should Be Avoided Golden Chance Should Not Slip. Boston, April 28 The belief that expansion rather than contraction of American trade should be sought by American manufacturers was expressed express-ed by Albert Green Duncan of this city president of the National Association Asso-ciation of Cotton Manufacturers, in an address prepared for delivery' at the annual convention of the organtza- I tion today. v He said cotton manufac- I turers were "harder hit than any almost al-most any other industry-" 'n tnls country "by conditions arising from the European war and added: "We are only beginning an improvement improve-ment which we hope will be real and substantial." In conclusion he said. "The halting attitude of business is the natural sequence of our recent I policies and Is caused by the fear of j the legislative and governmental cam-I cam-I paigns against business. No one will deny that there exist faults in business busi-ness life, but there is no justification for the propaganda which has denounced de-nounced all business as essentiallv corrupt and vicious. Corrective legislation leg-islation is necessary for the excres-cences excres-cences that may grow on our business, busi-ness, but corrective legislation is very different from the restrictive and pu- nltive laws which now burden our j statute books. "Business will have to face many new problems ln the next years. At the close of the war we shall be the one nation that has gained In resources resour-ces while unlimited opportunities seem to open for America. American Industries are amply prepared to take advantage of the world's conditions Are we then to see this golden opportunity oppor-tunity slip from our hands because of ! the handicap of governmental regu lation Business must stand Its ground and demand conservation and legislation legisla-tion to aid the business Interests of our country." |
