Show - mm mugs himself i ie city jail Leaving no clue as to whom he was related by ties of blood, sorvice or friendship, T. 11. Dobson, a transient sheepherder. committed suicide last night in the city jail, by hanging himself him-self with a piece of wire. His body is now at the Lindciuist mortuary awaiting action of the authorities as to its disposition. The body was found early this morning by Desk Sergeant Joseph Paine and Chauffeur William Dick when they went into the main j cell-room at 6 a. m. to count the prisoners pris-oners for breakfast. They had proceeded to the east end of the room, when Sergeant Paine, flashing his light, was horrified to see a body hanging limp from a water pipe thnt runs through the room, near the ceiling. Immediately investigating, investigat-ing, he and Chauffeur Dick found that Dobson had made a noose in a piece of wire, placed It around his neck and over the water pipe and tlien released releas-ed his footing. The wire had cut a j wide gash in his neck and considerable consider-able blood flowed from it, but the man made nosound Removing the body from its position, the officers carried it into the detectives' room nnd summoned the undertaker. Efforts Ef-forts to locate friends or relatives of the dead man will be continued for a period, before the body is buried. Dobson was serving a ten-day jail sentence for drunkenness and indecent indec-ent exposure, having been arrested Nov.. 19 in City Hall park by Sergeant T. H. Blackburn. He had little to say at the time of his arrest or after in the presence of the officers or the court and did not make a confidante of any of his fellow prisoners to the extent of giving them any information that would lead to the finding of his relatives. To Mike Maloy, another prisoner, he said ho had been taken from his home when seven years of age by a strange man and had not seen his relatives since. He also de-i de-i clared he was tired of life and was 1 going to "get out of it" as soon as ho had a chance. He had been suffering from toothache tooth-ache for a couple of days and last night about 2 o'clock was seen pacing pac-ing up and down the cell-room corridor, corri-dor, by another prisoner. That was the last seen of him alive. Dobson was about 27 years of age, weighed 160 pounds, was about 5 feet 9 inches In height, dark complexioned, and wore rough clothing. According to his statements during the week, ho was a sheepherder. No possible identification iden-tification marks were found on the body. |
