Show UTSII SOLDIERS START M MARCH Tribune: The provisional Utah-California Utah-California regiment, composed of the two Utah and one California squadrons squad-rons of cavalry, broke camp yesterday yester-day morning at Nogales, Ariz., at 5 o'clock and Btarted on a twenty-day practice march, according to telegraphic tele-graphic reports received In Salt Lake yesterday. It is expected that the First squadron will entrain for home following Its arrival at Nogales on October 25 and will reach Salt Lake on October 29 or 30. The Utah battery, under command of First Lieutenant Fred Gundry, will leave the camp at Nogales Friday morning to participate in a practice march and division maneuvers north for a period of ten days, the report stated. Major Wesley King of tho national guard of Utah and Lieutenant Lieuten-ant Howell of tho First United States cavalry, son of Congressman Howell, have been detailed as umpires for the maneuvers. Major Clinton of the Twelfth United Unit-ed States Infantry, with the "blue" force, consisting of two brigades at Fort Huachuca and one brigade at Tucson, will oppose the "red" force occupying Nogales and moving north, the report stated. The Utah hospital corps will remain in camp, having just returned from a practice march. The Utah guardsmen are well and In good spirits, the wire said. Under present orders tho Utah cavalry cav-alry will arrive In Tucson, Ariz., on October 8, where the members will remain for two days. They will arrive ar-rive at Elgin on October 13 and Fort Huachuca target range on October 15, remaining there until October 20, and arriving back at Nogales on October 25. Arrangements for the transportation transporta-tion of mail to the guardsmen while on the march have been made by leaving leav-ing a motorcycle at Nogales, which will communicate with the troops each day, until they reach Tucson. Lieutenant Curtis Y. Clawson of the Utah battery arrived In Salt Lake yesterday to attend the funeral of his father, Spencer Clawson, Sr. Lieutenant Lieuten-ant Clawson will be in the city ten days and will report back to Nogales for duty October IS, unless the Utah guardsmen shall have loft before that time. . nn- , |
