Show OAKS DEFEATED DY PORTLAND Free-hitting Game Ends With Beavers Five Runs Ahead Oaks Use Four Pitchers. Portland, Ore., Oct. 5. Portland defeated de-feated Oakland today In a weird, free-hlttlng free-hlttlng game that mounted to the voluminous vol-uminous score of 18 to 13 and played In the remarkable fast time of something some-thing like three weeks or so, it seemed seem-ed to the fans. Nearly everybody's bat average profited by the fence-splintering soiree. soi-ree. Oakland used four pitchers. White started, Kinney replaced him In the third and then, with the score li to 3, Howard, in disgust, took the mound himself for a couple of innings. He even caught the fever and after donating six runs to the Beavers In the seventh, quit In favor of Boyd. Meanwhile some of the Beaver pitchers were getting theirs. Houck started and had them at his mercy until McCredle decided there was no use wasting him on that sort of comic opera and he yanked him In the seventh in favor of Bigbe. The score then was 12 to 3 in Portland's favor and within five minutes the Oaks had six runs over and McCredle made haste to oust Bigbe. Kelly pitched the last two Innings and the Oaks boosted the score to 18 to 13. It was really a weird game. Everybody Ev-erybody tried to pull something unique. There were wild pitches and passed balls and stolen bases as numerous nu-merous as the grand stand attendance attend-ance and triples and doubles and all sorts of miscellaneous things that appear ap-pear at the bottom of the box score.
