Show TWELVE HUNDRED Of OLD FOLKS AT THE : ALHAMBRA I Upwards of 1200 aged and middle agoj residents of Weber countv were guests of the Alhambra Theatrical companv this afternoon, at a movlnc ricture entertainment and program in the Alhambra theatre Many of the eld folks were carried free of charge from their homes to within a shoi t walking distance of the playhouse on1 street cars of the Ogden, Logan and Idaho Railroad company. The guests began to arrive at the Alhambra about 2 o'clock Organist Peart formally opened the program by playing several old-time melodies, among them being "Com'"", Come Ye Saints,' "Drink to Me On'y With Thine Eyes" and "Massa's in! the Cold, ( old Ground." The rendition rendi-tion of each one was loudly applauded applaud-ed The address of welcome was made by George Shorten, Sr.. who also delivered a message of regret from President Joseph F Smith at his Inability to accept the invitation extended to him to be present. Mrs Mary Farley gave an appealing appeal-ing rendition of 'Silver Threads Among the Gold," with piano accom paniment by Mr. Peart and the song was received with manifest appre- ,lnlt. ., TV,.-. .JMU P ...... io nun . i nr wuij duui csn ui me 1 1 - ernoon, exclusive of Mr Shorten remarks, was made by President L. W. Shurtliff. It was brief but well IMDinted. the speaker recalling to hie hearers memories of Ogden's past history and characterizing the building build-ing in which the entertainment was being given aa one of the greatest things yet achieved by Ogden citizens. citi-zens. Miss Elsie Shorten sang "The Songs My Mother Used to Sing," in a deeply pleasing manner and the first part of the program was closed by the playing play-ing of a medley of national airs, by Mr. Peart, on the pipe organ. The second part of the program was the presentation of several motion mo-tion picture dramas and comedies, each one being well chosen and heartily appreciated. The occasion was in every way a big success and a large number of the guests of the theatrical compan expressed their individual apprecla 1 1on for the treat to President Zei-i Zei-i mer, Vice President Scowcroft and I Manager Skinner. oo |
