Show PROHIBITION IN MANHTATES Washington, Nov. S. Prohibition has made big strides as the result of the elections. The Methodist board of temperance sent out the following statement tonight: "Michigan, South Dakota, Nebraska and Montana have voted dry by startling start-ling majorities. Dry headquarters at Los Angeles claims enactment of amendment No. 2, closing all saloons and public drinking places in California, Califor-nia, with the amendment for absolute prohibition probably defeated. The wet majority in Missouri has apparently apparent-ly been cut by 125,000 votes. All beer amendments and repeals offered in dry states seem to have been defeated, defeat-ed, and Idaho, which has statutory prohibition, has enacted aprohibltion constitutional amendment by probably 3 to 1." The statement gives the Michigan "dry" majority as 70,000, the "drj'" vote in Idaho as 2 to 1, thus far, and in Nebraska as at least 35,000. The Montana majority is placed at 20,000, all cities in the state except Butte having favored the change. Arizona held to prohibition, defeating local option, op-tion, and probably has enacted an amendment excluding liquor from the state. , An effort to repeal prohibition In Arkansas" was defeated, as were the so-called "beer amendments" in Oregon Ore-gon and Washington. nn |
