Show CoIIIm. James Hogg, the Kttrlck shepherd, bos many anecdotes of the breed of docs known aa the collies. He had one named "Blrrah," of which he relates re-lates the following: "Upon one occasion, occa-sion, about seven hundred lsmbs, which wero under his care nt weaning time, broke up at mldulght and scampered scam-pered off, in three dlvlsluns, across tho neighboring hills, In spite of all that he and an assistant could do to keep them together. The night was so dark that be could not see Sirrah; but the faithful animal board his master mas-ter lament tholr absence In words which, of all others, were euro to set him moet on tho alert, and wlthojt moro ado, ho silently act oft In quest of the recroant flock. Meanwhile ths shopherd and his companion did not fall to do all In their power to recover their lost charge; they spent tho whole night In scouring the hills for miles around, but ot neither the lambs nor Sirrah could they obtain tho slightest trace. It was the most extraordinary circumstance that had ever occurred In the annals of pastoral life. They had nothing for It, day having dawned, but to return to tbelr master, and Inform In-form blm that they had lost his whole flock of lambs, and knew not what was to become ot one of them. On their way home howeter, they discovered a lot of lambs at the bottom of a deep ravine called the Flesh Cleucb, and the Indefatigable Sirrah standing In front ot them looking round for some relief, but still true to his charge. The sun was thon up, aud when they first cams In view they concluded that It was ons of the divisions which Sirrah had been unable to manage until he came to that commanding situation. Hut what waa their astonishment when they discovered dis-covered that not one lamb of the whole flock was wanting. How he bad got nil the divisions collected In the dark Is beyond comprehension. The charge was left entirely to himself from midnight mid-night until the rising sun; and It all the shepherds In the forest bad been there to have assisted him they could not have effected It with greater propriety. pro-priety.
