Tables soon to be issued by the bureau of foreign and domestic commerce in its 1915 "statistical abstract of tho United States, will show this country leads the world in the production of many basic articles of commerce. Some foods are included America stands first among the nations na-tions in its output of coal, Iron and steel, copper, petroleum, and silver. It leads, too, in these agricultural productions' pro-ductions' Cotton, corn, wheat, oats, apples, hay and tobacco. In gold production pro-duction the United States stands second, sec-ond, with South Africa first. In sugar production, Cuba is ahead with Germany second and the United States third. Brazil and Venezuela lead In coffee; China, India and Japan Ja-pan in tea; the Gold Coast and Ecuador Ecua-dor in cocoa, Russia and Germany in rye and India and China in rice. Countries second in the production of articles in which tho United States leads are: Russia in wheat and oats, and petroleum; India In tobacco and cotton, the United Kingdom in coal; Germany In Iron and steel; Japan in copper, Mexico in sliver. The United States produces 40 per cent of the world's Iron output; 50 per cent of coppeV and GO per cent of petroleum; cotton 50 per cent; silver sil-ver 25 per cent; wheat 25 per cent; corn sixty per cent, oats 20 per cent and tobacco 80 per cent , rr |
