Show WASHINGTON AVENUE: HILL IS TO BE CUT DOWN This afternoon County Road Commissioner Com-missioner Ralph Corlew and Commissioner Commis-sioner W. G. Child reported to the county board of commissioners that grading on Washington avenue, between be-tween Thirty sixth and Fortieth street, can be done for about $1000 and they recommended that work b-gin b-gin immediately The board decided to make the improvement and Mr. Corlew stated that he would begin operations withiu the next few days. The road commissioner also reported report-ed that rip-rapping the river bank to avoid highwater overflow at West Warren, bad begun, and that soon a force of men would be at work strengthening the bank of the river at the sugar factory bridge The river has not begun to rise but the commissioner com-missioner stated that he intended to be ready for the high water wheu it does come. Ben Chodwlck, Jr , was appointed to the position of deputy road supervisor super-visor In the Slaterville district Commissioner Child reported to the board that electric lights had been placed In headquarters for the unemployed unem-ployed on Twenty-fifth streets, and that there was a prospect of installing a telephone service. |
