Show AT MADISON, ILL. St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 25 A double murder, of which no witnesses can be found, tonight baffled (he police of St. Louis and of Madison. Ill The dead are Mrs. Catherine Street, wife of Captain William Street of the Madison Mad-ison police department, from whom she is said to have been estranged several years, and Charles F. Barmei-er, Barmei-er, a St. Louis policeman. The bodies of Mrs. Street and Officer Offi-cer Barmeier were found in an alley here late tonight, a few minutes after five shots had been heard. Beside the body of the policeman lay his revolver, re-volver, in which two of the shells wore empty. One bullet had killed Mrs, Street and another had killed the policeman. Witnesses say Street and his wife were quarreling violently on a street corner when Officer Barmeier passed by on a street car. As the officer jumped from the car, the quarreling couple ran into an alley, the policeman police-man after them. Street disappeared immediately after the shooting. He was arrested late tonight ten blocks from the scene of the shooting. He had a bullet wouud above the knee, but denied that he had done any of the shooting. oo |
