Show ENORMOUS PROFIT OF A SWINDLER 'Chicago, Nov. 23. Testimony today at the trial of John J. ITalpin, former captain of police, on trial for bribery, "Jimmv" Ryan, convicted clairvoyant swindler, testltied that operating under un-der police protection his profits from clairvovaucy between October, 1912, and March, 1913. amounted to between be-tween $G0,000 and' $70,0Q0. This he said included his share of $15,500 which Mrs. Hope McEldowney of La Crosse, Wis., gave him to invest in-vest in "copper stocks." In March, 1913, he said, he went to his home in Wyoming, but was brought back to Chicago two months later by a detective from the state's attorney's offico. |
