Show ONE OP THE PIONEERS OF THE STATE DIES AT AGE OF 87 Mrs. Sarah Ann Holllday Dowdel. one of the first pioneers of this Btate, died at 9:30 this morning at the home of her (laughter, Mrs. Louisa Pfost. 2546 Lincoln avenue. Mrs. Dowdel was born April 20. 1828. in Marlon county, Ala., the daughter of John H. and Sarah Catherine Pickens Holllday. Holll-day. She became a member of the Church of Latter-day Saints when six teen years of age and was married to Absolam P. Dowdel shortly afterward. Mr and Mrs. Dowdel arrived in Salt Lake with the Brlgham Young company, July 24, 1847 A daughter, Mrs. Sarah Catherine Dowdel Meeka now residing at Hudsou, Wyo., was born at Osage River. Mo., while the party was cn route to Utah. Mrs. Dowdel has been a resident of Sauta-quln. Sauta-quln. Utah, for a number of years and had been welting but a short time with her daughter In this city when death occurred. She was the mother "f eight chil-drpn, chil-drpn, the following surviving. Mrs. Murtha .1 Robey. Helper, Utah; R- T Dowdel, Twin Falls, Ida.; Mrs. Louisa Pfost of Hgden, and J. H. Dowdel of Downey, Ida Mrs. Robey was the first baby girl born in Salt Lake City. Fifty-five grandchildren, fifty-eight great-grandchildren and one grent-great-giandehlld also survive. Remains Re-mains are at the Larkln mortuary, where preparations are being made for shipment to Santaquin where interment in-terment will be made. |
