Show oo NO MORE RIVER WATER FOR OGDEN Ogden, on last Saturday, oted the water bonds by an overwhelming majority. ma-jority. While the vote was very I light, a good index to public sentiment senti-ment was obtained. By the way, our taxpayers do not take as much interest in expressing their views on an expenditure of $75.-'00 $75.-'00 or $200,000 as they do when a few men are to be elected to office. Th -higgest bond election in the hlstorj of the city was the school proposition and then only lin$ qualified voters I visited the polls. Now that the people have approved tho plans for water main extensions from the present terminal at Cold Wa- I ter Canyon to the city's artesian wells, the commissioners should push along j with the undertaking so that bv the 1 middle of summer, instead of tho wa- ' ter consumers being supplied with Ogden Og-den river water of questionable purity, the artesian wells will be sending .i great stream of unpolluted water to the city reservoirs. The flow of water from the artesian wells may decrease or the farmers may claim the water is theirs, and Btill the money spent on the water j main through the canyon shall have been expended to good purpose as eventually the pipe line must be constructed con-structed to South Fork In order to obtain ob-tain that unlimited supply of water which Ogden's growth demands If the wells continue to yield an ample volume of pure water, and the farmers farm-ers prove their contention, then the City can Impound Irrigation water In ! the South Fork and make an exchange j with the Irrigators, to the great good of both city and county. Every' summer, during the past twenty years, the people of Ogden j have been drinking in the driest period, water from Ogden river, di-verted di-verted at the power eompan's dam In Ogden canyon. Had the stream become be-come polluted by the excreta of typhoid ty-phoid carriers. Ogden would have had an epidemic of that terrible fever. Constantly that danger has been threatened. At last we are to get away from it, for which let us be thankful. Seventy-five thousand dollars dol-lars is a small price to pay for the Immunity which is to be ours. Our city commissioners are entitled to commendation in bringing about conditions which are to effect this change. |
