Show HEAD OF THE INTE1IU REVENUE OFFICE IN OGDEN By order of Secretary McAdoo of the treasury department, all Internal revenue offices In I 'tali, Idaho. Mon tana will be closed from this afternoon after-noon at 6 o'clock until next Mondav morning at 9 o'clock, while the transfer trans-fer of the office Is being made from LV H Callister to W C. Whaley. Mr Whaley reached Ogden last night from Montana and will go to Salt Lake today to assume charge of the orflce His term will begin officially offi-cially on Monday morning The in tervening time will be spent In tak ing Btock of stamps and other sup plies now In the hands of the collect or and his deputies Mr Whaley is a resident of Towns-end. Towns-end. Mont He is an old time Democrat Demo-crat and an orlclnal Wilson man. His appointment to the position of internal in-ternal revenue collector was made several months ago. but confirmation was withheld until Mr Whaley sev ered connection with a Montana crpamery company, against which sun nan neen Drought by the federal government. Mr Whaley stopped in Ogden last night to visit his old friend. H. L RpII. assistant superintendent of th Southern Pacific company, whom he has known for thirty ears. With roference to the rumor of the removal of the district headquarfprs from Salt Lakp to Helena. Mr. Wha-Ipv Wha-Ipv said that the maitpr would be coprned by tho attitude of the de partmpnt officials at Washington it Is cpttain. he said, that he Will conduct con-duct the affairs of thr- district tern porarlly, at least, from Salt Lake. The new official positively denied a reported interview In one of the Buttp papers recently that it had been de-i de-i Idpcl to remove the headquarters from Salt Lake at once Mr Whaley has not given Hip ip point ment of deputies much consideration consid-eration up to this tinuv preferring to get the affairs of the headquarters proppriy transferred before assuming additional troubles. He admitted that he had received instructions from the department to reappoint tempora rlly all deputies now at work In order or-der that thp affairs of the district may not bp Interrupted He has also been notified of the attitude of the department against tho removal of deputies for political reasons onlv Mr. Whaley said: "With the regard to the appointment appoint-ment of deputies I shall be governed large! by the action of the local Democratic committees and the three-state three-state committees of the district. Whllo I have read something in the papers regarding so-called factional roubles. 1 feel reasonably certain it will not affpet appointments in the enue department If I find however, that the various committees cannot reach an agreement, then I will use my best judgment in the selection of deputies, giving my principal attention to the many who Is best qualified I do not believe that there will be a chlel deputy in any one of the three states in this district, but this is a matter I which will rest largely with the de-j de-j partment W hile the matter of collecting the iru ome tax comes under the supervision supervi-sion of the internal revenue collector.
