Show oo OFF FOR THE COAST TO ARRANGE FOR CHOIR TRIP ., Charles-J. Ross of the Ogden Tab. ernacle choir and J. David Larson of theAVeber club," left this afternoon via the Salt Lake Route, for San Diego and other California points, for a business trip of ten days' duration. dura-tion. The two men are working together to-gether as representatives of the two organizations with full authority to arrange for the entertainment of and concert dates for the Ogden Tabernacle Taber-nacle choir in Its coming trip to the San Francisco and San Diego expositions. exposi-tions. They also carry the authority of the First Presidency of the Mormon Mor-mon church as to the local choir being be-ing the representative choral body of the church at the San Francisco exposition, ex-position, this question having been settled by tho First Presidency in a letter to the Provo, Logan and Salt Lake choirs when the movement to send a choir to tho exposition was first started. Shortly after the official sanction of hte First Presidency was given the Ogden choir an urgent Invitation was received by President Willard Scow-croft Scow-croft and Director Joseph Ballantyno from the board of directors of the San Diego fair, to have their singers attend that exposition. Both propositions propo-sitions were discussed by tho officers and several prominent triendB of the choir, among them being the Hon. Fred J. Kiesel, and at tho recent annual an-nual meeting of the Weber club, Mr. Kiesel made a motion that the club give the choir Its support In making tho trip to both the San Diego and San Francisco exposition. This motion mo-tion was carried unanimously and since then, a club has been working with the officers of the choir In the preliminary arrangements. These were thought to have progressed far enough for the present trip of Messrs. Ross and Larson -to be made. The two will go first to San Diego, and returning will stop at Los Angeles, An-geles, Riverside, Long Beach, San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley. It is expected that five concerts will be arranged for San Francisco, three in San Diego and one each in Los Angeles, Long Beach, Oakland and Berkeley. At each of these cities the concerts will be given in halls that have pipe organs and the conditions condi-tions for artistic work are said to be ideal. It Is also planned as nean as can be learned at present, for the choir to remain ten days in San Francisco, including side trips to Oakland and Berkeley; four days in San Diego and one day each, in Los Angeles, Riverside and Long Beach, with several other side trips. |
