Show I ANOTHER COXEY ARMY COMING, j A dispatch from San Francisco, da- ted March 3, says: "An 'army of the unemployed' broke camp today on a vacant lot "j at Fifth and Howard streets and started start-ed on a march to Washington, D. C. There are 24 companies, of 90 men each, and the men -have all of the officers of a regiment, except a paymaster. pay-master. 'Genera V C. T. Kelly is the j commanding officer. The men marched to the ferry in two battau--.oiis, led by buglers and drummers.' This is a reminder of the Coxcy army which started from San Fran- Cisco In 1894, crossing the continent I I to convey to Grovcr Cleveland a message mes-sage of distress. The army was routed by the guards at the White House, who ordered the men to keep off the grass. This latest army of discontent, by beating its way on freight trains, should reach Ogden within three weeks. The Coseyites gave Ogden a week of uncertainty. The state militia was called out, but the citizens of this place insisted on caring for the army In tliolr way and, as a result, handled the wayfarers with the smallest possiblo friction. What this now army will bring is but a guess. The men should b. assisted along and allowed to vent their grievances, as otherwise they will gather many recruits and the movement will assume an undue importance. |
