Show -voo SAYS ELECTION ISSUE WAS MISREPRESENTED Salt Lake. Nov. 13. William Met-calf Met-calf of Gunnison, defeated candidate for mayor on the Good Government ticket in that city at the recent election, elec-tion, was in Salt Lake yesterday on business Mr Metcalf takes exception to reports re-ports which ho declares have been spread by the opposite party the Citizens on the recent election He maintains that, contrary' to the statement state-ment mad by tho leaders of the opposition op-position party, the "wet" and "dry" question was the real issue In the election. "In the special election held last June," declared Mr. Metcalf, the question submitted was whether Gun-nleon Gun-nleon should have a.saloon The voters at that time declared against the saloon The issue at the last election was exactly the same whether Gunnison phould have a 'wet' or 'dry council. The Citizens party however, endeavored to misrepresent the facta and by reason of this misrepresentation mis-representation Induced many citizens to vote their ticket, which favored the saloon. "The reason why the Good Government Govern-ment party was opposed to the saloon sa-loon was that they believed that with a 'dry' council In power, the practice of selling liquor illegally, w hich does exist in Gunnison to 6om ! extent, could be stopped. It is only In the hope of making clear the real facta concerning the election that I make this statement." |
