Show DENVER POLICE CHIEF FALLS FOR PATHETIC STORY Denver, Colo. Nov. 21 A woman with wide, appealing eyes and a vole tremulous with grief, swindled Chief Ol Police Felix O'Neil out of $- Friday Fri-day morning The woman is now believed to be on her way to Salt Lake. She came into the chief's office nnd said that her son w;th dying In a San Francl6co hospital and that sh" had no monej with whit b i" pa) he; railroad fare in order to go to his bed side The polit e official referred he to the United Board of Charities When she told her story to Rev Mr Humbeni he says he recognized he as a woman with w hom charitable or ganizations all over the countrj had had I rouble. She makes her ow n liv r Ing and dresses well, he said, he bail been informed, on the money she ob tains by tellinp this story. He put the woman off. and not knowing where she had come from rr.'erred her to the police department She returoi&d at once . to ChM O'Neill's office and this time repeat ed her tale with a great outpouring of tears. He handed her $10 A short time after she had left the Rev. Mr Humberd came into O'Neill's office and Lasuallv remarked he had sent a clever sw indler ovr for him to deal with.
