Show CHIC" VARIAN IS CALLED BY DEATH Salt Lake April R Charles Krnest Varian. bi tier known to his friends as Chic" Varian," 86 years of age. a veteran vet-eran of the Spanish-American war and son of C. S. Varian, the well known attorney, died at the home of his lather. 23o Sixth Last street, yesterday yes-terday morning at 1 o'clock. Death resulted from a disorder of the or I gar.s of indigestion Mr Varian was born in Reno. Nev . ' in 1877. He served in the Philippines ! during the Spanish American war as i gunner corporal of the first section I of Utah battery A. and made a record for expert marksmanship. His frank and likable character made him a great favorite with officers and privates, pri-vates, even as it has in his circle of acquaintances as a civilian. Toward the last of his service Mr Varlan's ! health fniled and he was finally sent 1 home For a time he improved, but j has suffered several relapses from r-, r-, newed attacks of a digestive order He became critically ill about three weeks ago and grew steadily worse until the end. I During recent years Mr Varian had I been interested In mining in Utah and ' Nevada. He Is unmarried and Is survived sur-vived by his parents and two broth-' broth-' ers. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed. |
