Show gagged and robbed within sight of people passing on lincoln avenue police believe the crime was com bitted by professionals almost blinded by a blow across his oyes and bleeding from bolts and bruises inflicted by a sand bag charles jenson a laborer from dallon mont was left on lincoln avenue last night by tarco thugs that set upon him while he was walking toward twenty fifth street they stripped his pockets obtained 30 a knife a new and then made their escape jensan arrived n ogdan at yesterday afternoon from the north a stranger he walked up twenty fifth street alone with the intention of learning moro the city before leaving for nevada where he expected to obtain work he made no note of time so that it is impossible to fix the time of the assault but it happened early in the evening when but a few rods south on lincoln avenue people thronged thron ged the streets he made no acquaintances quain during his ramble so that tho thugs were evidently waiting tor any ono who might leave the lighted thorough taro to explore the darker avenues while he was strolling leisurely along three fellows approached swiftly from behind and before he suspected ther intention they felled him with a stunning blow over the left eye to prevent him from crying out one of the thugs stuffed rags into his mouth until be was on the point of suffocation every time he moved he was kicked viciously on struck over the bead two of the robbers searched him and when the job was finished all three ran out of sight in the darkness jensen does not know how long he lay on the ground dazed when ho arose he had no sense of direction so he started for light which ho saw gleaming in tho neighborhood of the yards As soon as be regained his senses ho found in the southern pacific round houe whither he had gone without knowing it tho night men inquired as to how he received the wounds on his head and when he was able to tell a coherent story the patrol wagon was summoned jensen passed the remainder of the night in the city jail sergeant lout and the night patrolmen instituted a vigorous search of lower twenty fifth street and the avenues adjacent but they found no one whom they could arrest for the assault jensen described the thug who stuffed his mouth full of rags as light corn with andy hair of short a sweated short coat and felt hat of two of the robbers he caught only glimpses so was unable to give tho officers any information as to their general appearance they came so suddenly that I 1 was knocked down before I 1 could turn said jensen one fellow grabbed mo by the throat with one hand and as I 1 gasped for breath stuck rags in my mouth with the other the knickel me terribly and beat me over the head whenever they thought I 1 was going to move I 1 U I 1 could see the lights and people crossing a street but where I 1 was it was dark and quiet they turned my pockets inside out and took everything I 1 sad but a 50 cent piece I 1 had just been paid oft at dillon and the money was all I 1 had to live on at tho city jail this morning jensen was given assistance hib left eye was swollen shut his forehead was bruised and cut and his face was scratched blackened and puffed up with the officers he will endeavor to apprehend the mah with the sweater outgoing trains ahre being watched and every effort is being made to capture he thugs as they are evidently of the dangerous professional kind |
