OCR Text CHILDREN DARNED HOSE AND MADE SOFA CUSHIONS they also displayed hemstitcher hemstitched Hem stitched handkerchiefs and aprons and samples of dressmaking one of the most pleasing primary school entertainments witnessed for a long time in this city was given wednesday afternoon by the primary department of the mound fort school in thy amusement hall the program which was original in design and unique in character was I 1 without the usual add conventional recitations and songs while the pro grain consisted of only four numbers an hour was required for rendition and the cleverness displayed by ohp in carrying out their parts evoked hearty applause from the large number of parents and friends no one forgot his lines and the dispatch and case with which parts were rendered were among the pleasant features of the entertainment I 1 he number deserving special mention was a cantata given by forty or efty little girls who represented by costume different kinds of flowers the singing and acting in this cantata were exceptionally pleasing today as parents day at the school and scores of patrons and friends visited the building to inspect work done by pupils during the school year in the lower grades paper cut tinga woven mats and drawings decked the rooms the work done in mechanical drawing by the boys of the seventh and eighth grades received favorable corn for its neatness arid accuracy the work done in sewing by the giris of the upper grades was displayed in the halls and in the grade many parents were surprised at uie amount and character of the work hone by the children the samples made in the fourth grade were and pretty in the fifth grade there were many tidy nieces of embroidery the of darning hose and making sofa cushions in the sixth was so well done that one might wear the former r recline upon the latter with no discomfort the handkerchiefs the aprons and he corset covers made in the seventh grade evinced skill in design anft patience in execution the eighth who took sewing at the high e chool made dresses which shows a remarkable aptitude in dressmaking after inspecting tho work of the pupils the enjoying a musical program furnished iby the different rooms at the end of the hall stair way there was a booth decorated with colors of the graduating class from which the teachers served punch to the visiting parents and friends
