Show We Can't Afford a Campaign We are not putting on any subscription sub-scription campaigns. They may be all right, but we want our subscribers to take The News because they want it. We have many friends in this camp and we think too much of them to get up a scheme to set a bunch of pretty girls, who wish to win a prize, after them and pester them for many months in begging for subscriptions. There was a subscription campaign launched here several years ago, bui .it did not go thvough as it was called off after a few weeks capipa.ign.ng. This camp is not inclined to take to such contests as the people here do not fall so easy for the glittering things as in other communities. In the first place they know the truth of the old adage, "All is not gold that glitters." But the main reasons why we woulu not put on such a campaign, we think too much of our friends to torment them to death with solicitors; we believe be-lieve that pretty girls should not be enticed into a losing contest and fail to get any of the valuable prizes; we do not want subscribers who are painfully pain-fully importuned into taking this paper, pa-per, and we do not have the thousands of surplus .dollars available for the purchase of prizes. . And the last reason is a one of primary pri-mary importance because we would feel in duty bound to have this before starting out, so that in the event the campaign should be a frost we would be able to make good to our contestants. contes-tants. No .we are not running a contest now and we will not be the next time you hear from us. |
