interests of the city when the returns were all in and it was announced that john S lewis had been defeated that gentleman showed his fine manhood hv coming forward in a must gracious manner to ask the convention to make the nomination of clr kuchler unanimous t the hajne ume pledging to the latter his unstinted support during the campaign close at band on the other oth er hand the well managed campaign of rudolph kuchler and the systematic manner in which he had planned his contest vas evident by the clean and businesslike business like way in which his managers conducted themselves and hart it not been for the unwarranted attacks of some of he lewis forces which in the brining of maor to his feet in defense of mr kuchler the convention would bar been an exceedingly cee harmonious gathering neither by direct statement or innuendo did any of mr Kuch lers supporters in any way attack his opponent for the nomination or those who would have the character nt the republican nominee tor maor from the opening of the convention up ciul the time when chairman howell announced that nominations for the office of mayor viere in order everything went oft in a decidedly harmonious manner and it was not until joseph stanford arose to second the nomination of john S lewis for mayor that the sensational part of the convention ft as reached mr stanford in seconding the nomination said until they too were interrupted by the chairman when at last he was able to make himself heard again it was wp parent that mr stanford Stan foid was visibly affected by the incident and he proceeded in a low voice which was choked with emotion he said that he had not directed his remarks at mr kuchler when be spoke of ats experience in the legislature and that while he seconded the nomination of john 6 lewis he had a high personal regard for rudolph kuchler the second sensation came nhen mrs kate shields in seconding he nomination ot john S U wis saidi said i came into the convention prepared
