Show mr IT YS Ill LuJ A ju A WAIT FOR SAN PEDRO HAS NOT YET MOVED IN MATTER local interests are not yet on same footing as their salt lake rivals from fridays standard the milling interests ot ogden are patiently awaiting colne action on he part of he san pedro officials hat will put them on the innie footing in the territory south of salt lake with the salt lake millers business men in other lines in the city aie also interested in having the load establish a common rate between ogden and the points mentioned As was stated in this paper sometime ago there has been some discrimination against ogden by the new road and alle the traffic agent has written 0 o secretary charles hollings borth of the weber club saying that the matter would be adjusted aside from fixing a rate to the becker brewing company nothing has been done to relieve the conditions it is over a year ago that the discrimination was first put into effect about the time that the short line transfer ed its line to points south of salt lake over to the los angeles san pedro road no sooner had the transfer been made ihan a rate was fixed to millers that was on the average 6 cents per more joithe points mentioned than had lyen charged bv the short line the ogden milling and elevator company nt once took the matter up with both the short line and the san officials and were promised that the rate would be adjusted As nothing material was done the case was laid before the weber duo and that body addressed a letter to the traffic officials of the san pedro asking for a consideration of an equitable freight rate this communication brought a letter from J L moore of hat road saying that as soon as possible the matter would be adjusted but when mr moore was in ogden a short time ago he did not call upon any of tho merchants who are vitally interested in a fair rate H was understood that a rate had been fixed that was equitable and in fredr to ascertain it something had been done to bellee the condition several of the merchants were seen and asked it they had been aliened ai rate in each instance the shippers stated that they had heard nothing of the railroad haeng made any concessions and that they had about decided that they were up against it one of the millers suggested that the short line could do much to le lieve the condition by taxing the salt lake millers the difference that is nowa being paid on on grain from cache valley alch would put the ogden men on an equal footing in the territory with the salt lake millers the weber club has the matter under consideration and is putting forth every effort to secure a rate that will allow the local shippers to compete in the territory with the salt lake ship |
