Show DEMOCRATS WIN DEMAND Filibuster in-Senate Is Succeessf ill Force Canal Measure, Washington, July 17. Democratio forces In the senate today practically won their demand for consideration of the remaining tariff bills and the excise tax bill. This was the result of conferences on tho floor at the opening of a Democratic filibuster. Senator SimraonB, in charge of the tariff bills, told the Republican leaders lead-ers the Democrats would resort to every device to delay business unless assured there could be a vote on the tariff measures. Senator Root immediately called other" Republican leaders into conference. confer-ence. So far as they could, the Republican Re-publican senators present agreed to accede to the Democratic demand with the understanding that tho Democrats Dem-ocrats abandon their filibuster and agree to allow the tariff bills to go to ballot after comparatively brief discussion. Formal agreement among the Republicans, Re-publicans, howevor, "was not immediately immedi-ately reached, owing to the desire of some of the principals to offer amendments amend-ments to the wool bill. The Democratic leaders declined to stop their filjbusteragalnst the sundry sun-dry civil bill until actual agreement was made.
